Chalmers of the Outback

Located in Central Australia, MacDonald Downs is a 2067 square kilometers (half a million acres) working cattle station, located 285 kilometers north east of Alice Springs. The Chalmers family have been running cattle in this area since the early 1920′s, and are now opening the Eastern Desert Art Gallery and homestead Chalmers of the Outback located at Mt Swan (the Southern tip of MacDonald Downs) for guests, to experience life on a remote cattle station and meet the Utopian artists at work.

You can meet the Aboriginal artists painting on their canvases under a gum leafed thatch roof bough shelter, learn about the Utopian art and history of the station; take a 4WD scenic tour, a guided bush walk or jump in the pool to cool off in Summer. Enjoy delicious picnic lunches in the bush, share a delightful dinner with the owners on arrival and even sample some of the bush tucker cooked by the traditional owners.

Chalmers of the Outback is a large, comfortable 4 bedroom home adorned with Aboriginal art. There is a large central living entertaining area with a 12 seater dining table for you to sit around and enjoy the culinary delights prepared for your stay.

Nightly Rate includes: Accommodation, all meals, all activities on the station, including aboriginal artists painting, art tour and display of work, numerous self-drive 4WD scenic tours, guided bush walks. Pre- dinner drinks are provided on arrival and wine and beer is provided with evening meals.
