Janelle Napaltjarri Stockman (deceased) was an extremely talented artist, whose life was tragically cut short at 33 years of age in a car accident in November 2009. She was a Western Arrernt artist but spent most of the time with her husband's family at Utopia. Billy Stockman, who is famed for being one of the original members of the Papunya Tula artists, was Janelle’s grandfather.
Janelle drew inspiration for her paintings from her traditional home land at Hermannsburg and Papunya as well as Utopia. Her primary subjects were Country, Sand Dunes, Women’s business, Women’s Dancing and Colour.
Her earliest works featured bold lineage, dot work and traditional concentric circles. Janelle Napaltjarri Stockman was a bold and energetic young artist who drew her inspiration from the landscape, flora, fauna, and stories from her grandfather.
