This very fine painting is Mary’s representation of body designs which are painted on the women for their Women's Business ceremonies.

In ceremonies women’s bodies are marked to represent the subject of the story. Here Mary uses bold splashes of colour in reds, pinks, oranges and yellows. She then overlays those colours with a series of white arc-shaped lines (using a gutta nib an instrument used in batik making representing the shapes of the design.
